Is FUE hair transplant successful?

  • It is a latest method of harvesting hair follicles which has become very popular.
  • In this technique, instead of taking a strip, single hair follicle is score out with the help of punch [manual or motorized] & then that follicle is extracted with the help of forceps/vaccum & transplanted to bald area. The same procedure is repeated again & again. We use 0.7, 0.8 & 0.9 mm punches to extract grafts which will leave minimum scars & our expertise can be seen from following pictures of FUE grafts which show 3, 4, 5 & 6 hair roots!

    • These follicles should be extracted from the permanent hair zone only. The Permanent Donor Zone has approximately 10000 to 16000 hair follicles. So we can safely harvest approximately 2200 to 3800 grafts.
    • We follow the latest method called power assisted Follicular unit Extraction. As we use very small sized punches the wound heals without much disfigurement.
      • We do it very carefully to obtain very good follicles with minimal transection rate.
      • With FUE, one can “SAFELY” harvest 2200 to 3800 follicles from “permanent donor zone”. Follicles which are extracted very near to the crown or nape of neck may be lost when grade of baldness increases.FUE is an excellent option for covering smaller areas in those persons who are not having a strong family history of grade V, VI, & VII baldness.

     

    •  FUE is not a solution for covering higher grade of baldness like Norwood VI or VII, if used alone. If more number of follicles is required then the surgeon has to do Body Hair Transplant or FUT (strip technique) in combination.
